News – Kenexis to present at the ISA safety Division
Symposium - April 28, 2010
Kenexis Senior Engineer Peter Herena will be presenting at the ISA safety and
security division symposium in New Orleans, LA on April 28, 2010. The topic of the
presentation will be testing requirements for non-SIS IPL's. While testing
requirements for SIS are well defined in IEC/ISA 61511, requirements for other
IPL such as alarms and emergency isolation values are not as clear and
additional guidance is required to establish mechanical integrity programs for
these safeguards. To learn more about the symposium, see the ISA web site at
http://www.isa.org.
News - Kenexis presented at Syngas Association 2010 Conference - Tulsa,
Oklahoma April 20-21, 2010
Senior Engineer Peter Herena presented at the Syngas Association 2010 Conference
in Tulsa on April 20, 2010. Mr. Herena presentation about SRS Development
discussed the increased prevalence of properly
designed SIS in process plants today and how they will have a positive impact on
the overall safety of the industrial workplace. However, with the rush to
implement SIS some important details can be overlooked that have a significant
impact to the overall cost of design and installation. In the worst cases, these
details can result in a poorly designed SIS that is prone to bypassing and
disabling. The authors provided guidance to end-users so they may embark upon
the SIS design process with better understanding of how they can effectively
incorporate the SIS lifecycle, which ultimately results in a safer and less
costly system. Visit

information.
News - Kenexis presented at ISA Chicago Section- Chicago, Illinois April
6, 2010
Senior Engineer Peter Herena presented at the ISA Chicago Section. Mr. Herena's
discuess the following: In the early morning hours of December 5, 2005, an
explosion rocked the fuel depot in Hertfordshire, UK (40 km north of London).
The blast, which caused a tremor equivalent to a 2.4 magnitude earthquake, led
British authorities to re-evaluate safety protocols related to large petrol
storage tanks. The presentation provided a discussion of the tank overfill
accident, with specific attention paid to the design of instrumentation and
control systems. For more information, please e-mail
